Queer History Walking Tour
Join us on this free 90-minute walk tour of inner city Wellington looking at sites of significance to Wellington’s LGBTI rainbow communities.

Time & Location
05 Jun 2022, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011, New Zealand
About the event
While many of the buildings still exist, the inhabitants and their activities have changed dramatically over time. This walk tour gives you an opportunity to be transported back to earlier days to hear stories of courage and resilience while standing in the locations where it all happened.
The tour recounts stories drawn from our other tours - making it a great introduction to our larger series of monthly LGBTI rainbow walk tours in Wellington. It’s mainly on flat accessible footpaths and covers Cuba Street, Vivian Street and Willis Street. We’ll visit Carmen’s curio shop, stop by the infamous Club Exotic, talk about a poetic same-sex romance, visit the site of the discreet Dorian Society and more.
Starts: Te Aro (exact location provided on registration)
Ends: corner Manners/Victoria Streets
Duration: 90 minutes
Covid information: your health and safety is important to us. We are limiting tour groups to around 15 people to allow for distancing. Tour guides will not wear masks, but are fully vaccinated and will take a rapid test just prior to the walk tour to give extra assurance.
The walk is on the flat using accessible public footpaths.
