About the event

This workshop is a one day crash course in improv for queer newbies (new to improv, not necessarily new to performing), and is taught by some of the leading queer practitioners in Aotearoa. Join us for a day learning some of the most joyful fundamentals of improvisation, including Being Silly, Happy Failure, Playing Games, Telling Stories, and more - all through the lens of bringing queer joy to the stage!

Linked to this workshop is a performance opportunity in our showcase on Tuesday 31 May - the first half will feature performers from this workshop, demonstrating the skills learned in a safe and supported environment. The second half features experienced players performing an Armando, an exploration of true personal stories inspiring spontaneous scenes of silliness.

Registration in this workshop includes:

>> Workshop attendance on Sunday 29 May, 10am - 5pm (with breaks!) >> Optional: Performing in the first half of the showcase at Two/Fifty Seven, Tuesday 31 May 6pm-7:30pm (5pm call time) >> Optional: Ticket to watch the second half of the showcase OR the whole show

This workshop is free, and open to anyone in Te Whanganui-a-Tara new to improvisation and with a queer identity, aged 13+. We want this to be accessible so please talk to us if you have anything we can help you with, whether that's support during the day or assistance getting to the venue/s.

Already familiar with improv but want to experience this approach? Join us!
